Headed out on a road trip over the long weekend? We
thought so. At Heritage Volkswagen Catonsville, we love seeing our customers venture out on the open
road, and we are more than happy to get them started! Before you wander the wilderness, be sure to stop by our Volkswagen service center
to make certain that your vehicle is in tip-top shape. Then read these
suggestions for some tips on how to achieve a safe and hassle-free road trip.
- Always be prepared for an emergency. Even if your car is ready to go, there are simply some things that are completely unpredictable. For starters, keep your cell phone close in case you need to call for help. In the event that someone is injured or ill, it's a smart idea to keep paper towels, plastic bags, water and air fresheners in the vehicle.
- Always travel with an emergency car care kit. You never know what supplies and resources you might need on the road, so it's best to have them all at the ready, including the following:
o Fire extinguisher
o Flashlight
o First-aid kit
o Tire gauge
o Jumper cables
o Hazard triangles, warning light or flares
o Jumper cables
- Use caution when loading cargo areas and roof racks. These components can add a significant amount of weight to your vehicle, which means there's potential for extra sway and less control. To maximize your vehicle's movement on the road, be sure to pack the heaviest items far forward and close to the floor so as to maintain a low center of gravity.
- Pack
for picky passengers. Kids will complain of everything from
hunger to boredom to little Sally poking him or her in the face. Keep your kids calm
by packing bite-sized snacks--the more nutritious, the better. Don’t
hesitate to throw in some of their favorite toys to keep them entertained and
surrounded by familiar items.
With these items taken care of, it's time to get out of Baltimore! But first, buckle up inside your 2016 Volkswagen Golf before you hit the gas pedal.
