Being a VW dealer in Baltimore, MD, we know that many people think of the iconic 2017 Volkswagen Beetle whenever the brand we represent comes to mind. While we’re proud that our classic cars spring into the minds of many consumers when they hear the Volkswagen name, we want you to know that the Volkswagen brand is a forward-thinking company that’s constantly looking to the future.
As proof of its innovative spirit, the automaker debuted its new, self-driving concept car at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The concept car is named, “Sedric,” and it’s the first member of an evolving family of self-driving vehicles the Volkswagen brand plans to develop.
Sedric doesn’t have a steering wheel or gas and brake pedals since it’s a self-driving automobile. Passengers sit facing each other across an open floor plan. To keep the air inside Sedric fresh, live, air-purifying plants are located just under the vehicle’s rear window.
The inside of the car’s windshield acts like a digital display that shows maps and other information that might benefit the vehicle’s occupants. Sedric responds to voice commands spoken by its passengers. When you want to summon your Sedric, you’ll simply press a button on a hand-held remote control.
The Volkswagen brand considers Sedric the first automobile in what it hopes will become a fleet of self-driving cars in the future. Even if Sedric wasn’t a self-driving car, it would still be turning heads because of its unique looks.
While we don’t have Sedric at our Volkswagen dealership near Columbia, MD just yet, we do have a full inventory of new and pre-owned Volkswagen cars for you to choose from. Visit Heritage Volkswagen Catonsville on Baltimore National Pike to find a Volkswagen vehicle you’ll love today. We look forward to seeing you soon!
