As Volkswagen dealers in Maryland, we’re always excited to tell you whenever there’s good news to share about the brand we proudly represent. That’s why we can’t wait to tell you that the Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ has been named Concept Car of the Year by “Popular Mechanics” as part of the publication’s Automotive Excellence Awards.

Showing off the perfect combination of throwback style and modern mobility, the I.D. BUZZ made its debut earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show. Just a few months later, the I.D. BUZZ has won the title of “Concept Car of the Year.” This award and the others that are part of the Automotive Excellence Awards given out by “Popular Mechanics” recognize vehicles that are the best in the following three categories:

·        Automotive Design

·        Execution

·        Technology

“For our Concept Car of the Year category, the criteria was pretty simple: Which concept car do we most fervently hope actually reaches production?” says Ezra Dyer, Automotive Editor, “Popular Mechanics.” “The appealing thing about the I.D. BUZZ is that it doesn’t come across as a complete flight of fancy. Volkswagen could build an electric Microbus throwback—and we hope it does.”

“We are thrilled for the I.D. BUZZ to receive the Concept Car of the Year award,” says Hinrich J. Woebcken, CEO of the North American Region, Volkswagen. “This concept represents how Volkswagen is combining our rich history with fresh takes on modern mobility and the reaction to the car has been extraordinary.”

The Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ has many characteristics that are sure to have mass appeal, including variable seating, interactive connectivity, and plenty of interior space for passengers and gear. The electric vehicle proves that the Volkswagen brand’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix can work on larger vehicles such as a modernized Microbus like the I.D. BUZZ. In the I.D. BUZZ, the electric batteries as well as the automobile’s drive system are below the vehicle’s floor, which is why the automobile has such a generous amount of interior roominess.

Like the editors at “Popular Mechanics,” everyone at our Baltimore, MD Volkswagen dealership hopes the brand we represent decides to produce the I.D. BUZZ in the future. While we’ll have to wait to see if that happens, there’s no reason for you to wait to check out the VW vehicles we have at our Volkswagen dealership. Visit Heritage Volkswagen Catonsville today.
