2020 Volkswagen Atlas vs 2020 Nissan Murano in Baltimore, MD

The new Volkswagen Atlas is a fantastic vehicle, offering three rows of interior comfort and an engine built to perform. Our dealers at Heritage Volkswagen Catonsville are often asked how the VW Atlas SUV's main competitor, the Nissan Murano, compares. Today, we find out.

While we have yet to receive the 2020 VW Atlas in our showroom, there is plenty we know about it and plenty more about how it compares against the 2020 Nissan Murano. The Volkswagen Atlas and the Nissan Murano are both midsize SUVs that offer some considerable power beneath the hood. However, it is the Volkswagen Atlas that is the victor here with its 276-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine. While the 260 horsepower churned out by the 3.5-liter V6 in the Nissan Murano is good, is simply doesn’t make the cut.

When it comes to cargo space, the Nissan Murano just can’t compete. While 65 cubic feet of maximum cargo space isn’t bad, it is incomparable to the 97 cubic feet of maximum cargo space offered in the Volkswagen Atlas. This issue of spacing is doubled when you consider that the VW Atlas can host a maximum of seven passengers in its three rows, whereas the Nissan Murano can only hold five. Add in the fact that the standard safety package of the VW Atlas includes features like automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alert. The Nissan Murano, by comparison, only offers automatic emergency braking.
